Some attribute this to accessible food transport for Vietnamese soldiers, while others cite Cambodians being the originators and Southern Vietnamese adapting this living in proximity. Nearby, in the southern region, temples built by the indigenous Cham people remain, but no historical documentation observes summer rolls in Cham diets. Given their shared geography and agricultural resources, one might wonder if the Cham also contributed to the origins of this dish.
